statice 'White'

sea lavender (statice 'White')

Product Image
A white form of the ever-popular flowering annual, statice (Limonium sinuatum) is easy to grow and ‘everlasting’ as a cut or dried flower arrangement. Long-lasting, ivory, papery blooms arise from a basal rosette of rich green foliage which complements a wide range of companion plants or floral displays, holding onto colour as a preserved flower during the winter.

How to care for Limonium sinuatum QIS White:

Plant in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, ideally enriched with some compost. Space plants around 30cm (12in) apart to allow good airflow and reduce disease risk. Water regularly while establishing, but once mature they are quite drought-tolerant, and avoid waterlogging.

Feed lightly during the growing season to encourage strong stems and abundant blooms. Regular deadheading will also encourage prolonged flowering.

Sowing instructions:

Sow under glass from February onto good quality seed compost and lightly cover with vermiculite. Germination takes approximately 2-3 weeks at 64-68°F (18-20°C). Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into pots or trays and harden off for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 25-30cm (10-12in) apart. Pinch back any 'leggy' seedlings when planting. To dry flowers for winter displays, cut stems just before flowers are fully open and hang small bunches upside down in a cool ventilated area.
