Luronium natans

floating water plantain

Product Image
Luronium natans, a rare British native aquatic, thrives in the shallow waters and reliably boggy soils, flaunting its oval green leaves that effortlessly float atop the water's surface. Its delicate, white, three-petaled flowers add a touch of elegance to its verdant foliage, and plays a crucial role in small pond ecosystems, offering both beauty and essential habitat for aquatic life.

How to care for Luronium natans:

Luronium prefers a still or slow-moving freshwater habitat and can be planted by gently pressing rooted plants or turfs into the soft substrate of a pond or marginal shelf, ideally at a depth of 20-60cm (8-24in). It benefits from nutrient-rich, loamy soil and full sunlight.

Once established, it requires only modest maintenance, though you can trim back old or decaying leaves in early spring to encourage fresh growth. Avoid disturbing the substrate too much, and keep an eye on water quality to prevent algal overgrowth, as it thrives in clear, well-oxygenated conditions.
