Light, airy and wonderfully easy going, this cheerful 'perennially-popular' hardy annual threads soft colour through borders with very little effort. Finely cut, fern-like foliage forms a delicate green haze, from which a scattering of semi-double flowers appear in relaxed shades of blue, pink, lavender, purple and white.
Each bloom seems to float above the foliage, giving the planting a soft, cottage garden feel that blends beautifully with other summer favourites. As the season moves on, the flowers of Nigella ‘Persian Jewels’ give way to distinctive, balloon-like seed pods that add further interest and are perfect for drying or leaving in the border for texture.

How to care for Nigella Persian Jewels:
If purchasing our seedling option, grow on under glass and plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushier growth, and feed at regular intervals with a high-potash fertiliser throughout summer.
Deadheading regularly will help prolong the flowering period into autumn. Support the plants with twiggy branches in exposed gardens.

Sowing instructions:
Best sown in situ, 5mm deep. Prepare the seedbed by incorporating some composted organic matter, remove any stones and rake to a fine tilth. Sow in autumn if you want early flowers the following summer, or in mid spring for a later crop. Thin them out when they are large enough to handle allowing 30cm (12in) between each.
