Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo'

ninebark

Product Image
Expect a striking shrub with rich, deep purple foliage that holds its colour well and creates strong contrast in a border. In early summer it produces clusters of soft white flowers flushed with pink, adding a light touch against the dark leaves.

Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Diabolo’ grows well in moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil and makes an easy, reliable choice for adding colour, depth and structure to mixed plantings.

How to care for Physocarpus opulifolius Diabolo:

Plant ninebark in well-drained soil and a sunny or lightly shaded spot, keeping it well watered while it settles in. Once it’s established, remove up to a quarter of the oldest stems at ground level after flowering to keep the shape fresh and encourage new growth.

Finish by spreading a 5-7cm (2-3in) layer of well-rotted compost around the base to boost soil health and help lock in moisture.
