Bright scarlet, late spring and early summer flowers, may be followed by pendulous spikes of bead-like red fruits on this deciduous, twining climber. The slender crimson stems and dark green leaves, which sometimes have notched edges, are also attractive.

How to care for Schisandra rubriflora:

To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.

Tie in young shoots to their support as they grow. In early spring, thin out over-crowded stems by cutting selected pieces back to their base, and cut back side-shoots to within 3 or 4 buds of the main stem.
