Clove pink (Dianthus caryophyllus): Commonly known as the wild carnation or clove pink, this perennial species of Dianthus (carnation) is sweetly clove scented with dark pinky-purple or red blooms, tooth-like at the edge of the petals. Tender perennial. Grows to 10cm.
Heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens 'Marine'): A 'cherry-pie' scented compact cultivar, often seen growing as annual bedding, with perfumed, deep violet-blue flowers. Half-hardy annual. Grows to 50cm.
Sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus): A wonderful collection of colours in this perfumed, annual climbing seed mix. Suitable for wigwams, walls and trellises. Tender perennial (often grown as an annual). Grows to 2m.
Sweet William (Dianthus barbatus): This popular, ornamental biennial or short-lived perennial comes in many colours from white to darkest red, often in bicolour combinations, with the darker eyes and toothed petals characteristic of pinks and carnations. Sweetly scented. Hardy biennial or short-lived perennial. Grows to 0.5m.
Viola (Viola odorata): A popular, scented mix of colour. Sweetly scented, violet-blue, edible flowers from February to March and heart-shaped, bright green leaves. Sweet violets are perfect for naturalising in a shady woodland garden or shrub border in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Fully hardy. Grows to 10cm.
Mignonette (Reseda odorata): An upright annual with conical clusters of very fragrant, pale yellow flowers and reddish stamens, in summer and early autumn. Half-hardy annual. Grows to 50cm.
