tomato (cherry) 'Red Alert'
cherry tomato or Solanum lycopersicum 'Red Alert'
- Position: full sun
- Soil: humus-rich, moisture retentive soil
A super-reliable variety for growing outside in containers or the open ground as it starts setting fruit very early in the season, so even in less-than-perfect summers your toms have enough time to ripen. It's a bush variety, with a compact habit that doesn't need staking or pinching out, producing heavy trusses of large cherry tomatoes with a lovely sweet flavour. - Growing Instructions:Sow seeds into pots of seed compost under cover somewhere frost-free, potting on seedlings individually as they grow. Once all danger of frost has passed, plant into greenhouse borders or into growbags, or harden off and plant into containers on a sunny patio outdoors. Water regularly, keeping the soil moist at all times, and feed weekly once flowers form. Tomatoes are able to develop roots along their stems, so earth up soil at the base of your plants to double their root power and make them more vigorous and productive.
