Shallot ‘Longor’ is a distinctive French selection of the classic Jersey Long type, producing unusually long, elegant bulbs with coppery skins and pale pink flesh. Favoured by exhibition growers for their impressive shape and uniformity, the bulbs have a strong, robust flavour and store well after harvest, making them both attractive and practical for the kitchen garden.
How to care for shallot Longor (PBR):
Plant shallot sets in fertile, well-drained soil from September to February, spacing them 15cm (6in) apart in rows 30cm (12in) apart. Keep the soil lightly weeded and watered while the plants establish to encourage strong growth. Lift the shallots when the tops begin to yellow and the bulbs are mature, usually around 25 weeks, then allow them to dry thoroughly before using or storing.
