A french variation of the 'Jersey Long' type, this is a distictive shallot which produces really long bulbs. These bulbs are said to be a big hit amongst exhibition growers and they have a robust flavour. They also store quite well.
How to care for shallot Longor (PBR):
Plant shallot sets in fertile, well-drained soil from September to February, spacing them 15cm (6in) apart in rows 30cm (12in) apart. Keep the soil lightly weeded and watered while the plants establish to encourage strong growth. Lift the shallots when the tops begin to yellow and the bulbs are mature, usually around 24-26?weeks, then allow them to dry thoroughly before using or storing.
