Potentilla fruticosa Marian Red Robin ('Marrob')

shrubby cinquefoil

Product Image
Potentilla fruticosa Marian Red Robin produces masses of vibrant, vermilion red flowers (each with yellow centres and undersides) from May to October, among pretty, deeply cut, dark green leaves. Since the colour quickly fades to orange in full sun, this deciduous shrub does best in partial shade. An excellent spreading, long-flowering plant for a sunny, well-drained, mixed border, and generally pest and disease free too.

How to care for Potentilla fruticosa Marian Red Robin ('Marrob'):

Plant woody shrub cinquefoil in full sun and well-drained soil, as they flower most freely in bright conditions and dislike sitting in wet ground. Water regularly during their first year to help them establish, then only during extended dry spells once mature. In spring, apply a 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure to keep the soil in good condition and conserve moisture.

After flowering, trim the plant lightly, removing weak or spindly shoots and cutting a few of the oldest stems back to the base to keep a neat shape and encourage fresh growth.
