Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound'

spiraea

Product Image
Abundant, arching sprays of bowl-shaped white flowers in mid-summer and rounded, dark green leaves. This spreading, deciduous shrub makes an excellent informal, flowering hedge for a sunny, well-drained site.

Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound' is particularly attractive to a wide range of insects so makes a welcome addition to the wildlife garden. This is a particularly vigorous variety, so for best results it should be pruned hard each year in early spring.

How to care for Spiraea nipponica Snowmound:

Plant Spiraea japonica cultivars in a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-drained, moderately fertile soil, spacing plants 60-90?cm (2-3?ft) apart. Water regularly while establishing and mulch around the base to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and protect roots. Feed lightly in early spring to encourage strong growth, vibrant foliage, and abundant flowering.

Prune immediately after flowering to allow maximum time for development of young growth to provide the following year’s flowers. Early-flowering shrubs need routine removal of damaged, diseased or dead wood at ground level.
