Light, feathery plumes of tiny, rich pink flowers on arching branches in late summer and early autumn and slender, light green leaves.

Tamarix ramosissima 'Pink Cascade' is a vigorous shrub or small tree, ideal for creating a colourful splash in a sunny border. Tolerant of some salt spray, it also makes a valuable windbreak in warm, coastal areas, where it will thrive in most well-drained soils - excluding shallow chalk.

How to care for Tamarix ramosissima Pink Cascade:

Plant in a sunny, open spot with light, free-draining soil. Tamarix thrives in coastal conditions and will tolerate salt-laden winds. For hedging or a windbreak, set plants in a single line spaced about 1m apart (3ft), firm them in well, and water regularly during the first season to help them establish. Apply a mulch in spring to hold in moisture and keep weeds down, and avoid rich feeding, which can cause leggy growth.

Prune in early spring by cutting back the previous year’s flowering stems to a well-placed bud, which keeps the plant from becoming top-heavy and encourages fresh, arching shoots that flower later in the season. Remove any weak, crossing or damaged stems at the same time to keep the framework neat, and lightly shape established plants after flowering if needed to maintain a tidy form.
