Verbascum 'Lavender Lass'

mullein

Product Image
Verbascum 'Lavender Lass' emerges from compact rosettes of velvety, ruffled green foliage, producing upright flower stalks that add essential vertical interest to borders and gravel gardens.

This semi-evergreen perennial, while relatively short-lived, compensates with its generous self-seeding nature, or extended blooming period when deadheaded. Like delicate butterflies suspended on graceful spires, the saucer-shaped lavender blooms with plum-purple centres create a mesmerising display throughout summer.

Its drought tolerance (once established) and natural resistance to deer and rabbits make it an excellent choice for low-maintenance gardens, while its compact habit suits it perfectly to front-of-border positions in cottage garden settings.

How to care for Verbascum Lavender Lass:

Plant in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil, spacing plants to allow good airflow. Water regularly while establishing, then only during prolonged dry spells, as they dislike wet, winter ground conditions.

Deadhead spent flower stems promptly to encourage repeat flowering, and leave the basal rosette intact over winter, tidying back in spring when new growth appears.

Mullein moth caterpillars can be a problem, so pick off the insects in early June as soon as they appear. Remove faded flower spikes if you do not want them to self-seed.
