This useful peat-free soil improver is produced via a partnership with the Duchy of Cornwall and local farmers near Dorchester, Dorset. It’s made from anaerobic digestate, a by-product of renewable energy production, blended with up to 20% certified green compost.
Spread as a mulch or dug into beds and borders it adds essential nutrients and organic matter, boosting fertility and yields, making soil more workable and improving its water holding capacity. You can also use it for mulching and for planting out by simply mixing it with soil in the planting hole.
How to use:
Mulching:
Spread a 5-8cm/2-3 inch layer on the soil’s surface, having first removed any weeds. Avoid going right up to stems and trunks if mulching around established plants.
Improving soil in beds/borders/veg plots:
Spread a 5-8cm/2-3 inch layer on the soil’s surface and then dig in to the top 15-20cm/6-8 inches. Repeat seasonally to gradually improve the soil structure.
Planting out:
Blend one part of soil improver to four parts of the back-fill soil when planting roses, shrubs, trees, herbaceous perennials and bedding plants.
Not suitable for acid-loving, ericaceous plants. Store in a cool, dry place away from weed killers and other garden chemicals, and reseal bag after use. Always wear gloves when handling and wash hands afterwards.
