Dahlias deserve a pot that gives them space to shine, and these hand-thrown pots do just that. The classic flute shape is deep enough for good root growth, yet low and wide for an excellent spread.
The generous size will let you group up to three different dahlia varieties together. Try a trio of contrasting shapes and colours for an abundant, layered display that’ll carry you through from midsummer well into autumn - just when the garden needs a lift. As they’re in a pot, you can simply move the flowers about to wherever they’ll bring you the most joy. Supplied with drainage holes.
About these hand-thrown Cretan terracotta potsWe’ve produced these pots in collaboration with the Terracotta Pot Company, creating bespoke designs to bring out the best in some of our most-loved plants. All are hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel - even the very largest. The clay itself is chosen for its mineral content, giving pots the strength and durability to withstand life outdoors.
Larger pots take several days to complete, as the potter builds the walls in stages, letting each layer rest before adding height. Once shaped, pots are dried and fired for 14 hours at very high temperatures, then cooled for the same again. Finally they’re quenched outdoors, brim-full of water, to lock in their frost resistance.
Looking after your potBefore planting, soak the pot in water overnight. This allows the terracotta to absorb moisture so it won’t draw it away from the compost (and your plants) at that critical early stage. Raise the pot on terracotta feet to help with drainage and protect against frost. Over time, moss, algae and mineral deposits may appear, especially if kept in shade. These natural changes enrich the surface, giving the pot a more characterful, aged look. If you prefer it pristine, give it a scrub with a stiff brush and water - never detergent.
