Terracotta salvia pot

Product Image
These hand-thrown terracotta pots, available in two shapes, are perfect for showing off salvias. The taller pot lends itself to statuesque varieties like ‘Amistad’ or ‘Blue Butterflies’, giving them the depth they need to root strongly and flower generously. The wide, shallow bowl works beautifully with compact types such as ‘Mighty Pink’ (like we’ve used here) or heat-loving herbs like thyme and oregano that will spill gently over the sides.

Both pots make a lovely focus in a seating area or on a large table, but really come into their own on steps or terraces, where plants can let loose their fragrance every time you brush past. Supplied with drainage holes.

About these hand-thrown Cretan terracotta pots

We’ve produced these pots in collaboration with the Terracotta Pot Company, creating bespoke designs to bring out the best in some of our most-loved plants. All are hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel - even the very largest. The clay itself is chosen for its mineral content, giving pots the strength and durability to withstand life outdoors.

Larger pots take several days to complete, as the potter builds the walls in stages, letting each layer rest before adding height. Once shaped, pots are dried and fired for 14 hours at very high temperatures, then cooled for the same again. Finally they’re quenched outdoors, brim-full of water, to lock in their frost resistance.

Looking after your pot

Before planting, soak the pot in water overnight. This allows the terracotta to absorb moisture so it won’t draw it away from the compost (and your plants) at that critical early stage. Raise the pot on terracotta feet to help with drainage and protect against frost. Over time, moss, algae and mineral deposits may appear, especially if kept in shade. These natural changes enrich the surface, giving the pot a more characterful, aged look. If you prefer it pristine, give it a scrub with a stiff brush and water - never detergent.

50-Year Frost Proof Guarantee

This pot is eligible for a 50-year frost-proof guarantee, only valid if the pot is stood on pot feet. Buy a set of matching feet and register your pot on the Terrac otta Pot Company website to qualify.
