Top soil
This general purpose top soil is screened and graded to give it a fine texture, free from clods, weeds and stones. A blend of sandy clay loam and organic matter, it supplies nutrients and retains moisture to get your plants off to a healthy start. Use it to refresh or create new beds and borders, or to improve your existing garden soil.
How to use:
New beds and borders:
Spread three inches of top soil over the existing soil in your beds/borders. Fork it into the top six to eight inches of soil and level off.
Topping up existing beds and borders:
Apply top soil to any sunken areas and fork in until you reach the desired level.
Improving soil:
Mix 50/50 with your garden soil and dig in to give soil a nutrient boost.
Store in a cool, dry place away from weed killers and other garden chemicals, and reseal bag after use. Always wear gloves when handling and wash hands afterwards.
