hybrid rhododendron
- Position: partial shade
- Soil: moist, well-drained, humus-rich, acid soil or ericaceous compost
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: May to June
- Hardiness: fully hardy
Small trusses of purplish-pink, trumpet-shaped flowers in May and June and gold flecked, dark green leaves. This hybrid, evergreen rhododendron is one of the few varieties with variegated foliage. The golden markings in the centre of the leaves make it a handsome, year round plant for a shrub border with humus-rich, acid soil. - Garden care: Avoid planting too deeply. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of leaf mould around the base of the plant each spring.
- Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten
