A showy addition to the spring garden, this award-winning tulip has chunky, attractively mottled leaves, and bright pillarbox-red flowers, which open in the sunshine to reveal a dazzling yellow eye. An easy and undemanding tulip, it can be left in the ground to naturalise, where it will slowly spread to form a good-sized clump. - Garden care: In September to December plant bulbs 8-10cm (4-5in) deep in fertile, well-drained soil. After flowering deadhead and apply a balanced liquid fertiliser each week for the first month. Once the foliage has died down naturally lift the bulbs and store in a cool greenhouse - or leave them in situ to spread.
- Humans: Harmful if eaten; skin allergen; Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
