‘Ultra Blue’ boasts darker blue flowers than the parent ‘Bluebell Creeper’ and a denser, more branching habit, making it ideal for planting into pots. This unusual and evergreen twining climber flowers profusely from early summer to September outside or grown all year round as a wonderful specimen plant in a warm conservatory.

How to care for Billardiera heterophylla Ultra Blue (PBR):

To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.

This bluebell creeper will be happiest in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-draining soil.

Provide support, such as a trellis, obelisk or fence, and tie in the twining stems as they grow using raffia or garden twine. Also, keep well watered while the plant becomes established.

Prune lightly after flowering, and cut back the flowered shoots to within 2-4 buds in the spring.

In colder areas, consider growing this twining climber in a large container so it can be moved to a frost-free spot in winter.
