Crataegus × media 'Crimson Cloud'

( syn. Crataegus × media 'Superba' )

Product Image
A popular, spreading, thorny tree with mid-green, three- to five-lobed leaves and a profusion of large, lightly scented, bright red flowers with creamy centres in late spring, popular with bees and butterflies.

It is an ideal plant for a range of soil conditions (including chalk), and it is tough enough to cope with exposed sites once established, as well as city pollution and coastal conditions. ‘Crimson Cloud’ produces tiny red berries in autumn, great for attracting birds.

How to care for Crataegus × media Crimson Cloud:

When planting, add some soil conditioner (well-rotted compost) to the planting hole and some mycorrhizal fungi to aid root establishment.

Ensure the top of the plant's compost is flush with the level of the surrounding soil and the collar of the tree is above ground level.

Support taller specimens either with a bamboo cane and or stake during establishment. Water generously around the base of the plant.
