Dark yellow flowerheads from summer to autumn and intensely aromatic silver-grey leaves. Curry plant is grown in the herb garden for its ornamental value and intriguing, curry-like scent. The silver-grey leaves contrast well with dark-leaved herbs and may be added dried to give a spicy aroma to pot-pourri.

How to care for Helichrysum italicum:
Plant in light, free-draining soil and a sunny position, as this shrub dislikes heavy or wet ground. It is drought-tolerant once established but will benefit from occasional watering during very dry spells. In frost-prone areas, protect the base with a thick mulch of straw or well-rotted compost over winter.
Prune in spring by cutting stems back by about a third to maintain a compact shape and prevent the plant becoming straggly, but avoid cutting into old woody growth. Remove any dead or damaged stems at the same time.
Curry plant thrives in poor to moderately fertile soils, so avoid heavy feeding, which can reduce its aromatic foliage.
