A fabulous plant for adding late summer colour to the garden, this Japanese anemone grows in sun or shade and has masses of yellow-eyed, pale pink flowers. The leaves are semi-evergreen and deeply cut and bring interesting texture to a herbaceous border.
Anemone hupehensis var. japonica 'Splendens' is clump-forming and looks good with most late-flowering plants, especially if it is allowed to spread gently among perennials and shrubs.

When planting, incorporate compost to improve drainage and fertility, spacing plants 30-45cm (12-18in) apart and watering thoroughly. Apply a layer of organic mulch to retain moisture.
