Year round groundcover plant combination

Product Image
Suitable for partial shade, these groundcovering plants can be used to provide year-round groundcover near the front of a border, or in those hard to fill spots underneath trees and shrubs.

Planting tips:

Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost when planting. Protect young plants from slug-damage using environmentally friendly slug pellets or beer traps and keep them well watered until they are well established.

What's included:

In this collection you will receive one of each of the following plants. They are all supplied in 9cm nursery pots:

  • Vinca minor 'Gertrude Jekyll': The lance-shaped, dark green leaves will help supress weeds, while the wonderful, pure-white flowers, which are borne over a long period from April to September are valuable for lightening dark areas. Grows to 10cm.

  • Liriope muscari: An extremely useful plant, which will tolerate a range of conditions including dry shade and drought. Dark green, blade-like leaves provide year-round interest and in autumn, just as other flowers are beginning to fade, vibrant, long-lasting wands of deep violet flowers rise above the foliage. Grows to 40cm.

  • Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae: A compact spreading euphorbia that has a long-lasting, lime-green flowers in late spring above rosettes of glossy, dark green leaves. A valuable plant for difficult areas of dry shade, it looks really good in a woodland setting. Grows to 70cm.

  • Polypodium vulgare: A native of Britain, and as such is one of the most versatile for our climate, being content in most soils, damp or dry, as long as it has some shade. It has long, leathery, dark green fronds with a slight sheen, and an attractive, lacy appearance. Grows to 30cm.
