This tool is a beauty and really quite a joy to use when you get into your stride. A traditional Japanese hand sickle, it’s designed with a serrated blade for harvesting rice and other cereals. In the garden you can use it to whip through old grasses and perennials to make way for fresh growth in spring. Grab a handful of stalks at a time and slice them off using a strong sawing action.
Made from high carbon steel with a poplar hardwood handle. Supplied with a vinyl sheath to protect the blade.
Care and maintenance:
Look after your sickle by only using it on fibrous plant matter - never wire, stone, metal or other hard materials, including bamboo or very hard wood. Clean the blade with a Crean Mate and water after use. Dry, apply a coat of camellia oil and store in a dry place.
