MAD Trees and Shrubs is a specialist blend designed to improve survival rates of trees and woody plants and help them establish more successfully. At its core is chitin, sourced from soldier fly frass, alongside water-retaining granules to maintain consistent moisture around the root zone.
Chitin acts as a natural warning signal for plants. Many pests and pathogens, including fungi and insects, contain it in their structures. When plants detect chitin, it triggers their own immune response, making them more resilient to disease, pests and stress.
It can help reduce harmful organisms, including pinewood nematodes which are the main cause of pine wilt disease. Chitosan (contained in chitin) also helps plants manage oxidative stress, supports production of beneficial pigments and strengthens plant structure.
