Agastache mexicana 'Red Fortune' (PBR)
Mexican giant hyssop
This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.
- Position: full sun
- Soil: well-drained, fertile soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: July to October
- Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)
When in flower (for many months from midsummer), this aromatic perennial is an impressive sight. The flowers are a lush shade of reddish pink, with just a hint of purple, and they seem to mix with just about everything. They also appear in abundance and will help attract beneficial pollinators including bees. 'Red Fortune' is a low maintenance plant, that is happiest in a sunny, slightly sheltered spot with freely draining soil. - Garden care: They can be short-lived, but are easily propagated by semi-ripe cuttings in early summer. Avoid excessive winter wet and don't cut back the faded flower-stems until early spring, as they provide interest in the winter months.
