When in flower (for many months from midsummer), this aromatic perennial is an impressive sight. The flowers are a lush shade of reddish pink, with just a hint of purple, and they seem to mix with just about everything. They also appear in abundance and will help attract beneficial pollinators including bees. 'Red Fortune' is a low maintenance plant, that is happiest in a sunny, slightly sheltered spot with freely draining soil.
How to care for Agastache mexicana Red Fortune (PBR):
Plant in a well-prepared bed, lightly conditioned with well-rotted compost or manure. Keep cutting the old stems out to encourage repeat flowers through the summer. Once the flowering period is over, resist the temptation to cut back the faded flower-stems until early spring, as they provide interest in the winter months. Once established, lift and divide congested clumps in spring. Protect roots during the winter with a thick layer of organic mulch around the root zone.
