Graceful clumps of dark-green, ‘Blue Ice’ has willowy foliage and slender stems with slate-blue buds that emerge in May. Star-shaped blooms open and remain in flower through to July. In autumn, its narrow, linear foliage turns golden yellow providing an additional season of interest. Deer and rabbit resistant and great as a cut flower, this Amsonia is a superb garden performer.
How to care for Amsonia Blue Ice:
When planting Amsonia incorporate some well-rotted compost or manure and mycorrizal fungi into the planting hole. If the plants are starting to look floppy after they have flowered, they can be cut back to new basal foliage. Alternatively, they can be given a lighter trim, cutting them back to form neat domes. Once established, lift and divide in spring or autumn.
