Anemopsis californica

apache beads

9cm pot £12.99

This pond plant dies right back in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Depth of water: 0 - 10cm
  • Rate of growth: slow to average
  • Ultimate spread: infinite
  • Height above surface: 45cm
  • Flowering period: July to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Originating in North America, this handsome marginal aquatic plant can also be grown in reliably boggy areas in the garden. Anemopsis (or apache beads) forms a clump of broad green leaves, and in summer produces relatively large white flowers, which occasionally have a flash of pink.

  • Garden care: These plants are potted up (using a suitable aquatic compost) into 1-litre aquatic pots. These pots are made of a fine mesh, which allows water to circulate through the compost, providing the plants with both oxygen and nutrients. If you are using them as a aquatic plant, they can be placed straight into the pond, however they will preform better if planted out sooner rather than later. Grow in shallow water or moist soils at the edges of a pond. Protect from cold, drying winds.
