A dense, bushy evergreen with lustrous, rich-green foliage, which acts as the perfect foil for the fully-petalled red flowers, which open from fat, rounded buds over a relatively long period from late winter. Both the name and the colour of the blooms make it an ideal gift for a special anniversary, but many will want to include it in their garden (or patio) simply for its wonderful seasonal display.
How to care for Camellia × williamsii Ruby Wedding:
To prevent damage to the emerging buds and flowers protect from cold, dry winds and early morning sun. Water established plants in dry weather to prevent bud drop. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser in mid-spring and again in June. Top-dress annually with shredded bark or well-rotted leaf mould. After flowering lightly trim or prune any branches that spoil the appearance of the plant.
