Radiating an exquisite fragrance reminiscent of satsuma oranges, Clematis ‘Manshuu Ki’ enchants with its fragrant, pale primrose-yellow blooms in early summer, each embellished with a vibrant yellow centre. This compact, deciduous climber showcases pale green leaves alongside large, scented single flowers that span up to 18cm (7in) across.
The creamy-yellow or pale yellow-green petals deepen in hue along their central ridged band, adorned with creamy-yellow stamens, offering an alluring display in late spring to early summer and often repeating in late summer.
Its enduring shiny, spherical seed heads follow the blossoms, making it an ideal choice for climbing roses, shrubs, or trees, although it thrives best in partial shade to prevent the delicate petals from scorching under intense sunlight.

How to care for Clematis patens Manshuu Ki:
To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.
Clematis are happiest when their roots are kept cool and moist, so try to plant them where the base of the plants will be lightly shaded by other, lower-growing species. Otherwise, use a clematis root protector, or top-dress the rootball (avoiding the immediate crown), with a generous layer of shingle or pebbles.
