How to care for collection 1 Dahlia collection:

Dahlia tubers can be planted outside after frost, or started off in pots under glass in late winter to early spring. Plant them horizontally approximately 12cm deep, making sure the ‘eyes’ are uppermost. Allow enough room between each tuber so the plants can grow and spread to their full size without being overcrowded.

While in growth, provide a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September. Stake with canes or brushwood if it becomes necessary. In mild areas, leave them in situ over winter, but protect the crown with a generous layer of dry mulch.

In colder areas, carefully lift and clean the tubers once the first frosts have blackened the foliage and allow them to dry naturally indoors. Then place the dry tubers in a shallow tray, just covered with slightly moist potting compost, sand or vermiculite and store in a frost-free place until planting out again.

What's included:

In each collection you will receive one tuber of each of the following:

  • Dahlia 'White Isa': Initially the petals are inrolled, and are a soft lemon-cream with just a hint of pink, but as the 7cm (3in) wide flowers mature fully, the petals flatten out and become paler. Creating a sublime and slightly ethereal effect, the flowers are excellent for bouquets or borders. Grows to 80cm.

  • Dahlia 'Yellow Jill': The perfectly formed heads of these unusual dahlias are made up of mahogany tipped yellow 'petals', which turn rich amber as they age. It looks wonderful when woven through a border with a tropical feel, and they will add lashings of colourful blooms over several months from midsummer. Grows to 1.4m.

  • Dahlia 'Strawberry Cream': Introducing 'Strawberry Cream', where the essence of summer is encapsulated in the rosy pink, strawberry-rippled blossoms of this fully double delight. Bursting with pinky-white petals adorned with darker pink flushes and evolving streaks, each bloom ages gracefully, deepening in colour and intensity over time. Perfect for pastel colour schemes, this dahlia exudes elegance, especially when paired with subtle shades of pink, purple, and blue. Grows to 1.2m.

  • Dahlia 'Bishop of Dover': A single row of white ray-florets, which usually have a pinkish violet flush, surround the central disc, forming pretty flowerheads that are held on deep purple-brown stems. The purple-tinted foliage of Dahlia 'Bishop of Dover' offers a wonderful contrast. They make excellent cut flowers and pollinating insects (including bees) will flock to them. Grows to 90cm.
