  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: tolerates most, but prefers a deep, fertile, moist but freely draining
  • Rate of growth: quite slow
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

The young foliage of this Japanese cedar is creamy yellow, and as the tips of the stems are slightly weeping, the overall effect is particularly graceful. Eventually forming a small to medium sized pyramidal tree with fibrous, reddish brown bark, it is happiest when grown in a sheltered spot with some protection from scorching sun and cold winds.

  • Garden care: Apply a generous layer of mulch around the base of the plant (avoiding the immediate crown) in late winter. Pruning is not usually necessary, however any any competing leaders that appear can be removed in autumn. Shelter from cold, drying winds and protect from hot sun - particularly when young.
