A dazzling collection of complementary plums, purples, and bright pink herbaceous perennials, sure to brighten up any sunny spot in the garden.
Planting tips:
Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather. Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers to form.
What's included:
In this collection you will receive one of each of the following plants. All plants will come in a 9cm pot, apart from the Alstroemeria, which is supplied in a 2 litre pot.
- Phlox paniculata 'Roberta': Phlox have always been country garden favourites for their delicious scent and attraction to butterflies and bees. This variety bears large trusses of flowers from July to October on tall stems with narrow, toothed, mid-green leaves. This long-flowering, vigorous perennial will tolerate full sun or partial shade, but like all phlox, does not like soil that dries out in summer. Grows to 60cm.
- Alstroemeria 'Sirius': Soft pink flowers with a gold throat and brownish-red freckles appear in profusion from early summer, creating an exotic feel to the border. An easy to mix colour, it looks beautiful when planted in sizeable clumps, and as it makes such a good cut flower, it is worth planting more than you need. Grows to 90cm.
- Penstemon 'Raven': Elegant spikes of small, tubular, foxglove-like flowers appear from July to October among lance-shaped, bright green leaves. This easy-to-grow perennial will quickly form large, leafy clumps and is perfect for adding a splash of colour to the middle of a sunny, well-drained border. If you deadhead regularly, the flowers will persist until the first frosts. The rich, deep purple flowers of this variety contrast particularly well with purples and acid greens. Grows to 1m.
