Escallonia laevis Pink Elle ('Lades') (PBR)

Perfect for pollinators
7.5lt pot (40-60cm) £69.99
  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June to July and then usually in September
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

Larger than average heads of pink flowers form in abundance at the ends of the branches of this compact evergreen shrub in early summer. Usually in early autumn there is a second, less prolific flush that will add another shot of colour to the shrub border. The foliage is a rich glossy green, and this looks great all through the year, even when not providing a backdrop for the flowers. 'Pink Elle' is a recently introduced form that is already winning awards and will make a fine specimen for pots. Its naturally branching habit also makes it ideal for hedging.

  • Garden care: When planting ‘Pink Elle’ incorporate well-rotted compost and some mycorrhizal fungi into the planting hole. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. In mid or late spring lightly cut back any shoots that spoil the symmetry of the plant. After pruning apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
