Euonymus hamiltonianus 'Indian Summer'

spindle 'Indian Summer'

Product Image
Euonymus hamiltonianus 'Indian Summer' provides a colourful display across the seasons. This large, vase-shaped shrub lights up autumn with brilliant ruby red foliage, its oval leaves turning a fiery hue before dropping. For double the impact, its greenish flowers give way to eye-catching fruit; the lobed seed capsules emerge a dusky pink colour, splitting open to reveal vivid orange arils inside that persist into winter, extending seasonal interest.

How to care for Euonymus hamiltonianus Indian Summer:

When planting, dig a generous hole and mix some well-rotted compost or manure into the soil to enrich it before backfilling. Also incorporate mycorrhizal fungi to boost establishment. After planting, apply 5-7cm (2-3in) of organic mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Lightly prune back the tips of young branches in mid to late spring to promote bushy, compact growth. To maintain shape and rejuvenate, prune annually while dormant before spring growth begins. Thin out old stems and any crossing or misdirected branches to open up the interior.
