The new foliage of this adaptable evergreen shrub emerges greenish white, but as it ages it gradually darkens to a deep, rich green. This gives the plant a distinctive bicoloured look, which lasts for a couple of months in spring. This plant will grow just about anywhere. It takes partial shade and dry soils in its stride (once established) and can be used for low hedging or pots. Although this plant is fully hardy the distinctive new flush of foliage could be damaged by a harsh frost.
