This medium-sized bamboo has thin, yellow-green arching canes and a mass of small, soft, mid-green leaves. Commonly known as the umbrella bamboo due to its graceful weeping habit, its fairly speedy rate of growth makes it an ideal choice for an informal hedge, and because it's also compact, it makes a lovely, exotic specimen or container plant for small gardens.
Fargesia murieliae is also tolerant of wind and full sun.
This bamboo has been specifically selected for its non-invasive, clump-forming nature, offering beauty and versatility whilst ensuring it remains a safe, attractive addition to your garden. Unlike running bamboos, the rootballs of these plants grow in tight, manageable clumps, but if you'd prefer to keep the plants even more compact than their natural spread suggests, you can plant them in a pot and sink this, slightly proud, into the ground. Alternatively, place a root barrier around ther root mass will maintain their size. Please see our bamboo control system
