A lovely, dwarf, sibirica-type iris with glossy, mid-green leaves displaying a prominent midrib. Bluish-purple blooms, occasionally pale lavender with discrete standards and large, rounded falls appear from late spring to summer.
How to care for Iris setosa:
Plant in soil that has been improved with well-rotted manure or garden compost and do not allow to dry out, particularly as the plant is getting established. To encourage healthy growth of roots, foliage and flowers, feed with a general-purpose or slow-release aquatic fertiliser. Remove yellow or brown leaves to keep the plant healthy and the water clean. Cut water iris to just above the water line in autumn if you live in a cooler part of the country. Remove the stems after flowering from the base as this will concentrate the plant's energy into producing new rhizomes. Divide and replant about every three years.
