Phyllostachys aureosulcata f.
spectabilis is a tall bamboo with green-grooved, golden yellow canes, which can flash with shades of red in the sun, fading to darker yellow with age. A colourful variety, it looks great alongside the ebony black canes of the black bamboo,
Phyllostachys nigra. This aptly named coloured-stemmed bamboo is one of our 'highly recommended plants'.
This beautiful and vigorous plant propagates primarily through rhizomes and is considered a running bamboo. In small gardens, it is best restricted in suitably large containers, planted out in a partly sunken pot, or planted within a root barrier placed around the root mass to maintain an appropriate spread.
