Salvia Mystic Spires Blue ('Balsalmisp')

mealy cup sage

Product Image
Salvia farinacea 'Mystic Spires Blue' is a tender perennial that is typically grown as a summer season bedding plant. This striking mealy cup sage bears a close resemblance to lavender and features dark flower spikes that unfurl to reveal stunning deep blue flowers that tower above its slender, verdant foliage.

This cultivar is compact and has multiple branches that produce a profusion of blooms from late spring until the first frost. It is an effortless plant to grow, requiring minimal maintenance and deadheading, and is a favourite among butterflies. It is also ideal for cut flower arrangements, and similar to other salvias, it is highly resistant to deer and rabbit damage.

How to care for Salvia Mystic Spires Blue ('Balsalmisp'):

Grow on under glass until all risk of frost has passed and they can then either be planted outside into a well-prepared bed, or used to fill decorative pots on the patio.

Pinching out the growing tips will encourage them to become bushier, and feeding with a high-potash fertiliser at regular intervals throughout the summer will promote even more flowerspikes to form.
