Silene latifolia

white campion (syn. Silene alba)

Product Image
The flowers of this pretty wildflower emit a light perfume in the evening, and it’s also at that time that the blooms take on a luminous quality in the low light. Rich in pollen, they are sought after by bees, and the flowers can last several days if cut for the vase. They are ideal for mixed borders or naturalised planting schemes. Although the plants may often be short-lived, they will self-seed freely in suitable conditions.

How to care for Silene latifolia:

Sow shallowly, directly into a well prepared bed and keep weed-free. When seedlings are large enough to handle, gently thin them out to 30cm intervals. Seeds sown in autumn will usually go on to flower earlier than those sown in spring.
