A bouquet themed collection bringing together a stunning trio of peonies, each chosen for their show-stopping, cut-flower appeal. From the bold cerise-purple blooms of 'Red Sarah Bernhardt' to the glowing coral tones of 'Coral Charm' and the classic, rose pink elegance of 'Sarah Bernhardt', this collection offers a rich palette of colour and scent.

Perfect for filling borders with luxurious summer blooms and even better for creating homegrown floral arrangements.

Peonies are loved for their bold, dissected foliage and extremely beautiful, showy flowers, which are ideal for adding colour to mixed, herbaceous or shrub borders in spring and summer.

Originating from woodland clearings, grassland and meadows, the tuberous roots of the herbaceous forms act as storage tissue, which allows the mature plants to become drought tolerant once established. They will thrive in deep fertile soils that are moist but well drained, and although tolerant of some light shade, they perform best in full sun.

Long-lived clump-forming perennials, they can resent being moved, although this can usually be done quite successfully if tackled in autumn. Some may require staking to support the weight of the flowers.

How to care for Bouquet paeonia collection:

Where available, bare root peonies should be planted out or potted up as soon as possible, avoiding frosty or waterlogged conditions. Choose a sunny, well-drained position, as peonies flower best in full sun and dislike being moved once established.

Plant all peonies into well-prepared soil, ensuring the highest bud on the crown is no deeper than 5cm (2in) below the surface. For newly planted plants, protect emerging shoots from late frosts in their first spring. Keep plants well watered and fed during growth, using balanced, slow-release fertiliser rather than high-nitrogen feeds, and remove spent flowers once faded.

Mulch with well-rotted compost or manure, support tall stems to prevent flopping, maintain good air circulation, and remove any yellowing or diseased leaves. Leave remaining foliage intact after flowering, cutting back only in autumn once it has naturally died down. Avoid disturbing established crowns, as peonies dislike being moved may take a season or two to establish.

What's included:

In each collection you will receive 3 Paeonia bare root plants - 1 of each of the following varieties:

  • Paeonia 'Red Sarah Bernhardt': Producing an abundance of lightly scented flowers in early summer, this wonderful peony will offer lashings of colour for both the border and the vase. First introduced in China in 1980, its name may hint at it being a red-flowered version of the ever-popular 'Sarah Bernhardt', however it really is quite unique and despite its name, the flowers are more cerise-purple than red. It does however really pack a punch in the border, and once established, it will keep coming back year after year. Grows to 1m.

  • Paeonia 'Coral Charm': Opulent, coral pink semi-double flowers top the slender stems of this herbaceous peony from early to mid-summer. The large, showy flowers will create a fabulous feature in the border, and make spectacular additions to a vase. Absolutely superb, the flowers need to be seen to be believed! Grows to 85cm.

  • Paeonia 'Sarah Bernhardt': Scented, rose pink flowers with ruffled inner petals crown this robust plant in early summer. The fully double flowers are very large and heavy, so the plants will ideally need supports that can be adjusted as the plants grow. The flowers are considered one of the best for cutting. Grows to 1m.
