tulip collection

Product Image
A charming collection bursting with cherry, plum, and pink hues outlined by elegant silhouettes. Contrast is offered by the bi-coloured beauty of ‘Rem’s Favourite’ making this a flower arranging dream where a splash of late spring colour is required.

How to care for Cherry cream tulip collection:

Using fresh, good-quality compost, plant bulbs in pots from September to November. For borders, we advise waiting until after the first frosts (typically mid-October to early December depending on your location) to reduce the risk of potential disease such as Tulip Fire. Plant bulbs 15-20cm (6-8in) deep and 10-15cm (4-6in) apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Alternatively, allow 7-9 bulbs per 30cm sq or 60-75 bulbs per m². If you’re unable to plant your bulbs immediately, they can be stored in a cool environment with good air circulation. Remove all the packaging and place them in a loose-weave jute sack before labelling and hanging up in a dry, unheated garden shed or well-ventilated greenhouse.

In spring, when the plants are in active growth, apply a high-potash fertiliser (like Tomorite) each week until the leaves start to die back. Pinch off the spent flower heads as the petals fall, and let the stem and foliage die back naturally. The bulbs can then be lifted and discarded, or cleaned, dried and stored (as before) for replanting the following autumn.

What's included:

In each collection you will receive the following:

  • 7 × Tulipa 'Purple Doll': The pointed deep purple petals of this tulip are slightly ruffled, and each has a touch of green rising up from the base. A sport of Doll's Minuet, it has an elegant silhouette and comes up to a good height. It will also mix easily with most shades of pink and purple. Grows to 45cm tall.

  • 7 × Tulipa 'Rems Favourite': If you like bi-coloured flowers then you will love this beautiful triumph tulip. They have large, open ivory-white cup shaped petals with beetroot-purple flaming from the base in mid April. Triumph tulips are favoured for their traditionally shaped flowers and sturdy stems, which allow them to cope with bad weather, and they make excellent cut flowers. Zurel. Grows to 60cm tall.

  • 7 × Tulipa 'Negrita': This snub-nosed deep purple tulip with beetroot-purple veins and a satin finish is bound to draw attention. They look stunning planted en masse but are equally good planted next to softer pastel shades (such as Tulipa 'Early Glory'). They have strong stems and large flowers and are quite adept at coping with erratic spring weather. Grows to 50cm tall.
