Dramatic, dark red-purple leaves turn fiery red in late autumn. In late spring, clusters of large, crimson flowers contrast wonderfully with the foliage, and are followed by glossy, dark red fruit, which turn black when ripe and are irresistible to birds.

This spreading, purple-leaved crab apple makes a magnificent tree for a small, sunny garden. Pollution tolerant, Malus 'Royalty' is particularly suitable for urban sites.

How to care for Malus Royalty:

When planting your flowering crab, prepare a hole up to three times the diameter of its root system. Fork over the base of the pit in readiness, incorporating plenty of organic matter into the backfill and planting hole, securing the tree firmly with a tree stake. Avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil, trees should be planted out as they arrive.
