The theme of this garden is "surviving", celebrating how the work of Cancer Research UK helps save thousands of lives with its research.
The garden is designed for a couple who have a love of the coastal landscape; it is an abstracted representation of this landscape using water, plants, timber and rock. The theme of "surviving" is explored conceptually as a journey, a steady climb with various routes through the space from a barren seashore up to a lush refuge. Combining the seashore and "surviving" metaphors, the garden features plants that are adapted to survive in coastal conditions.
