This stunning foliage plant will add a shot of colour, as well as structure and form, to a patio or planting scheme. The long, strap-shaped leaves are a deep bronze-red, and they form in a gently splayed cluster. Ideal for gravel, contemporary or Mediterranean-style gardens, Astelia 'Red Shadow' has a relatively compact habit, so will happily thrive in a large pot.

How to care for Astelia Red Shadow ('A1') (PBR):
Choose a sheltered spot with well-drained soil and partial shade, though it can tolerate sun if the soil stays moist. Protect the crown in cold or exposed gardens with a thick winter mulch, especially during frosts.
Avoid overhead watering, as water collecting in the crown can cause rot. Tidy up any damaged or dead foliage in spring, and divide congested clumps between April and May, if needed, to maintain vigour.
