Billardiera heterophylla

bluebell creeper (syn. Sollya heterophylla)

Product Image
Pretty, pendent, blue, bell-shaped flowers from June to September, followed by edible blue berries, and lance-shaped, deep green leaves.

Billardiera heterophylla is an unusual, twining, evergreen climber, ideal for training over a pergola or arch in a sheltered, sunny site.

Where temperatures fall below 5°C (41°F), bluebell creeper is best grown under glass and watered sparingly during the winter months.

How to care for Billardiera heterophylla:

This bluebell creeper will be happiest in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-draining soil.

Provide support, such as a trellis, obelisk or fence, and tie in the twining stems as they grow using raffia or garden twine. Also, keep well watered while the plant becomes established.

Prune lightly after flowering, and cut back the flowered shoots to within 2-4 buds in the spring.

In colder areas, consider growing this twining climber in a large container so it can be moved to a frost-free spot in winter.
