Plump pointed buds appear on nodding stems in mid-spring, opening over the next few weeks to slightly ruffled, yellow-centred flowers. These bell-shaped blooms are a rich shade of reddish-purple and they look sublime against the backdrop of fresh green foliage.
Relatively compact in habit, Clematis 'Brunette' is useful for covering walls and fences without taking over the whole garden, and it will quite happily thrive in a large pot, provided it is kept well fed and watered.
