Clematis 'Warwickshire Rose'

clematis (group 1) (syn. Clematis montana Warwickshire Rose)

Product Image
Vigorous and versatile, this deciduous climber, is perfect for training through established trees or large shrubs. Clematis 'Warwickshire Rose’ produces lightly scented, pale to dark rose-pink single flowers, approximately 4-6 cm across, from late spring to early summer, with a second flush possible in late summer.

The delicate blooms are followed by attractive, silky seed heads that add visual interest into autumn. With equally striking foliage, dark bronze or red tints provide a beautiful contrast to the flowers.

This cultivar thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, fertile soil with its roots kept cool. 'Warwickshire Rose’ is an excellent choice for naturalistic planting schemes, where its graceful habit and seasonal beauty enhance vertical spaces or mingle harmoniously with trees and shrubs.

How to care for Clematis Warwickshire Rose:

To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.

Clematis need their roots to be kept cool and moist, so plant the base of these climbers in light shade or provide shading with other plants or a dressing of of pebbles.

No routine pruning is necessary. If the spread of the plant needs to be restricted prune immediately after flowering, cutting back overlong shoots to healthy buds.

Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.
