This is an attractive evergreen shrub, with colourful foliage that will make a great year-round specimen in a large pot or sheltered shrub border. The small oval leaves are a lovely blend of burgundy, cream and pink, so they offer a good contrast to shrubs with plainer green foliage. When mature small white flowers with a delicate scent appear from early summer.

Plant Lophomyrtus in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot to protect it from cold winds and frost. Water regularly during the growing season but reduce watering in winter to prevent root rot.
Remove any dead, diseased or misplaced branches in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage healthy new growth. In colder or exposed areas, provide winter protection with fleece or mulch around the base to shield the roots from frost.
